Rizalyn, It is determined by the Orthodox church that the Godparent(nono or nona) be a member of the orthodox religion in good standing. I just went through this with my brother and his daughter, who I asked to baptize. Since I had been away from the Orthodox church for a number of years, married and divorced outside of the Orthodox church, and then recently a member of a different Orthodox church than the one my brother belonged to, I had to get a number of things approved. I actually had to have the Priest from my Church write a letter to the Priest of the Church that my brother belongs to state that I was a "member in good standing". This meaning that I attended Church and had "donated my church dues". Since I had been married and divorced outside the Orthodox church, a letter was also written to the archdiosise(sp)? to get approval that I could be the Godparent of my niece. If you have and other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
