I understand that the first born son is named after the paternal grandfather, and if that means all the men in the family name their first-born sons after the grandfather, then there are several 'Nikos' or 'Thomas' added to the family! No one seems to have a problem with that. It's also my understanding that the father's first name is given as a middle name to ALL his children, male and female. I'm sure there are variations on this one depending on which region in Greece you're from. But the paternal grandfather naming tradition is widespread. btw, if you have a new baby - congratulations!!!!!
