My wife is Greek, I know the country quite well, and I like Greece and the
Greeks very much, and I always have a good time in your beautiful country.
But in the context of this thread, I must also say that
Greece is one of the most overt racist societies I know.
Racism is everywhere, perhaps more so in other (European) countries,
but in Greece I have often been baffled by the openness with which even well
educated people look down on non-Greeks, non-orthodox and Muslims especially.
I don't know why this is, but I am sure demagoguery of the media and certain
politicians is partly to be blamed.
