Elizabeth,

you do not seem to be able to state what you consider "western" and what "eastern" mentality, what is "european" to you. If you concentrate in relation to men and women, then I don't think that the men in Greece have a different attitude towards their women compared to the Italians or the Spanish. Does that mean that Italians and Spanish are not considered western Europeans as well?

In Turkey unfortunately still there is a significant number of women that walk around with a veil on their faces. That does not happen in Greece, Italy or Spain or Germany, England(except, the Turks and Arabs that night be living there). So, we can conlude that Greece has a lot more in common with these countries on this matter than Turkey.

In Greece and Italy, Spain, England, Germany, if there are around 30 people dying in prisons because of hunger strikes for political beliefs(I'm not talking about one or two sporadic cases, we are talking about 30 and the numbers are increasing fast), the whole society would have rebelled and the people themselves would have brought the whole issue to an end. This does not happen in Turkey. More similarities in mentality here of Greece with the rest of the "western" world as you want to put it.

We can carry on with many examples if you want. You will find many similarities and differences, but the basic facts that constitute a basic social structure, an economic development, political stability, freedom of speech etc, show that Greece has a lot more common with its "western" neighbours than its "eastern" ones. And that's a fact.
