Hi, there,

As far as I know - and I am no expert -, the belt dance originates in Thrace around Karoti and Soufli, in which areas the way the dance is performed differs slightly: In the Karoti-version, the dancers hold on their belts, arms crossedlow, in the Soufli-Version they also hold each other by their shoulders. There also is the Zonaradikos Roumilis, a heavier version of the Zonaradiko... Most variations of this dance are danced mixed, one splits men in women in front and backrow, some include jumps in the second part, others include poses danced by the men at the end of the line-up.

When it comes down to the music, I hope somebody else in the forum can help out on that...

T.
