: Does anyone know when Greek Easter is in 2002? Or how it is calculated?

These are the dates of Greek Easter (Pascha), and actually for all Orthodox churches, for this decade:

2002 -May 5
2003 -April 27
2004 -April 11
2005 -May 1
2006 -April 23
2007 -April 8
2008 -April 27
2009 -April 19
2010 -April 4

I'm not exactly sure how the date is calculated but I know that it's based on the position of the moon (ie lunar). The Orthodox Easter always follows the Jewish Passover (Pesach) [note that Pascha = Pesach] which is based on the historical tradition of Christ's Crucifixion and Resurrection occurring after the Passover meal (The Last Supper). The Jewish Passover is calculated on the lunar positions and so the Orthodox do the same.

The Catholic Easter does not follow this rule and therefore may occur concurrently with the Jewish Passover although this year (2001) the Catholic and Orthodox Easters will fall on the same date.
I hope this has helped.
